Got Me To Thinking......

Mayberry over at Keep It Simple Survival, http://mayberry-keepitsimplestupid.blogspot.com/2010/08/hiding-in-plain-sight.html

He has a post on Hiding In Plain Sight and me and my wife have been thinking about this for years. I'm in nursing and I am ready to hit the road. We are thinking about getting a Class C Motor home and going on the road. We are both ready for the freedom and the open life on the road. We both need a new life, a life of true freedom. I have a plan to get on the road within a year. Maybe we will do it and maybe we will just move to a new state but I know we are getting out of California. And when we do make our move to the open road or and new home I know it will be a lot smaller than what we have now. I need the simple life and a life with less clutter and less mess. Plus less government and less taxes. I hate that I still feed the beast, but I have made myself a promise to cut down the contact with the beast till I have cut myself from it for good. I think this hiding in plain sight is a great idea and I plan to work to a goal of true freedom.

  1. I wish you all the best as you change gears. My wife and I are doing the same thing. I'm a disabled Vet, and don't like the way the country is going. All the best.

  2. Pete, as I'm sure you know, contract nursing pays VERY well! My neighbor's wife worked at a Laredo hospital for a few months at nearly $40 an hour. With an RV, you could hop from contract to contract and make a buttload of cash in a hurry. Save that dough for a hunk of land somewhere and yer sittin' in high cotton!Definitely something to think about!

  3. I just sold a truck-load of crap and, not only was it a cleansing feeling, it brought in money for other needs. Just to the point where you are now is an acomplishment. A camper might be in my future also.

  5. Not to rain on the parade, but a couple things to consider:

All of your stuff is with you. If your RV is robbed/burned, you're homeless, broke and without resources. Now, an RV on a piece of land you own could work. Having a "home base" of sorts with well hidden caches.

RVs get really small, really quick. They're a lot of fun for a week or so, but after that, the walls tend to close in on you. Not a problem so much in the summer, spring and fall when you can get outside and set up a camp, but winter and rainy days get old, fast.

All that being said, my wife and I are going to test out the idea in a few years. We're going to RV across the country for 3 months to see if it's viable for us.

  7. No Rain here, I have 95% of my stuff in my home now so if it is robbed or burns down I'm out less the ins. payback and I will have good ins. on the RV. I am so ready to hit the road.
