What should you have and how much of it do you need?
This is a trick thing to talk about and let me tell you why. Your Prepping plan and your Arsenal is a very personal and should fit you like the best old pair of blue jeans you have. So when someone like me who blogs, "This is what Gun you need!" it will and have always pissed off a few people. So with that said when you read this remember that this is my idea of a great Arsenal and set up, and it fits me. So please post your ideas and tell me what you like and have or plan to get.
Guns................Got to have them, there is no way around it. If you plan to survive the coming collapse and then the post-collapse you will have to have firearms and know how to clean, fix and use them. Trust me just having a gun in the box up on the top shelf will not get you over the hump of the end of the world! So where do we start?
Handgun-
I own a few but I think the best set up is to own a 22LR, .38spl or .357 revolver, 9mm or .40cal and a .45cal.
(The reason I added a 22LR handgun is because you have to have a 22LR rifle so why not have a small handgun for target/small game)
Shotgun-
Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 One of each or two of the same you can't go wrong. If you like a big price tag go with Benelli Vinci Tactical Shotgun I don't own one but they are sweet, just out of my price range.
(A note if you have small frame ladies of young people that will be with you in your survival group you may think about getting a 20ga or .410ga for them to shoot, A 12ga can be to much for some)
Long Guns- Remington 700, Winchester 70, Ruger 10/22, all great guns!
And there are so many more to pick from.
Combat Gun-
AR-15/M4, So-com .308, AK 47, Mini 14, M1 Grand, SKS and there are so many more........ You have to find the gun that fits you and you work well with.
A gun needs to fit you like a glove and no one person can tell you, "Don't get that it not good!" try some guns and find the one you like and then get good with it. There is an old saying, "Don't mess with the man who only owns one gun!! Because it's a sure bet he will know how to us it!" Become that person get to know the firearms you own and become not just good but become great with them. Learn to clean and care for them and learn to shoot with them!
Ammo-
This is some number I have seen before,
Handgun- 1000 rounds pre gun
Long gun- 2500 rounds pre gun
Shotgun- 500-1000 shells per gun
OK............. Now what I think you need!
Handgun- 5000 rounds per gun
Long gun-
22LR-50,000 to 75,000 rounds
Hunting and long range gun- 1500 rounds
Shotgun- 2500 shells per gun
Combat Guns- 7500 to 10,000 rounds per gun, with 10,000 rounds hid for a rainy day!!!!
Mags-
You should have at least 10 mags per handgun, 10-20 for 22LR Rifles and 25-50 for your combat Rifles, and if you can get them have repair part kits for your mags.
Cleaning Kit-
I don't know about most people but I keep 10 times as much cleaning stuff as I need on hand. And have so much boxed up for the rainy days ahead. (Just remember if we can't clean and fix our guns there are not worth much!!)
Gun Parts-
Have back ups for needed parts Midway USA is where I get a lot of my parts and there are so many other parts stores and gun shops. Stock up now and learn the needed skills to work on your guns.
Your article is perfect and is pointing out the right approach as well as first aid for medical emergencies. However, if you are looking for a perfect shtf kit, then you must include the following things in your list:
ReplyDeleteCotton-tipped swabs
Thermometer
Needle and thread
Scissors
First aid handbook
Petroleum jelly
These are the most common and preferable things that must be included in your kit. Thanks and best of luck!!!
