The Recipe:
1 box Borax $4.00
1 4 lb. box Baking Soda $3.44
1 box Washing Soda $3.66
3 bars Fels-Naptha Soap $1.00 a bar
1 box of Purex Crystals $4.00
5 1/2 cups Oxyclean (Any brand will do I used two of the dollar tree Oxy power tubs) from $2-$5
Total= $20.10
For 6-12 months of soap, could last longer if you don't do a lot of washing.
1.You begin by shredding the Fels-Naptha bars. You can had grate or use food processor, trust me use the food processer.
2. Next I combined all the ingredients in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. This did take a little muscle strength but it was not bad even my wife could have done it. Pour 1/3 of each item and mix, then pour 1/3 and mix and then pour the last of each item. After all items are in bucket put on the lid and shake the bucket.
3. All that is left to do is to place the soap in a small storage container and label it for use. You use only use one level scoop per load. I saved the scoop from the Oxy to use.
I use a simplified version of this, equal parts grated soap (castile soap works great), borax and washing soda, mix well and add a tablespoon up to 3 tablespoons per load. It works GREAT! One word of warning, if you have a graywater system that pours out on the ground, AND you have plants out there that you like, omit the borax, it will kill plants, use the same amounts of the other ingredients and it will work just as well.
